Swire Energy Services (SES) supported Vantage Drilling with a new bespoke pneumatic Helifuel refuelling system (HRS) for the Topaz Driller located in Egypt.
Recently awarded with a new rig contract in North Africa, our client required SES to design, build, test and deliver the new HRS as well as support for welding processes.
Project overview:
This project had to be delivered within 5 months
After our initial consultation, we established that a range of additional services were required to support the new rig contract
The movement of the jack-up rig presented some logistical challenges, and SES had to ensure the system could be installed prior to the rig move
This project involved a variety of moving parts, with more than 40 items being supplied using 12 different suppliers. Although a complex project, we were able to deliver a seamless process for Vantage Drilling thanks to the collaborative approach of our global aviation central hub.

The SES service:
Our team collaborated to design, build and test a new bespoke stainless steel pneumatic Helifuel refuelling system. This was carried out in accordance with both CAP 437 and the latest filtration standards.
The specification of the HRS included:
- Pump cabinet
- Dispensing unit
- Commissioning parts including hoses, welding consumables, and spare materials
- 2 x 2700L offshore Helifuel transportation tanks and slings manufactured in accordance with DNV 2.7-1
The tanks were fully tested against International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations prior to delivery and thorough non-destructive testing (NDT) of the tanks was completed before being transported to the offshore location.
As part of the project, we deployed a Commissioning Technician to ensure safe installation of the HRS and a Helideck Auditor to carry out a detailed helideck audit and friction test in accordance with CAP 437.
We have since engaged with Vantage Drilling to provide further services, following the success of this project, including an annual inspection on the metrological system.
