Swire Energy Services reaches 4,000 days lost time injury (LTI) free in Nigeria

Posted 05 Dec 2023

Swire Energy Services has proudly achieved a milestone of 4,000 days without any lost time injuries (LTI) at its operations in Nigeria. Since November 27, 2012, the team has upheld an exceptional safety record, with zero injuries leading to lost working hours.

The success is attributed to Swire Energy Services' commitment to an inclusive safety culture, aligning with its core values: integrity, humility, endeavour, excellence, and continuity.

In April 2022, the National Industrial Safety Council of Nigeria in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, acknowledged the company's excellence in workplace safety and labour compliance, and this newest achievement helps to further exemplify its commitment.

Effective communication within the team played a pivotal role in reaching this milestone. Regular meetings, training sessions, and awareness programmes ensure that safety policies, procedures, and legislation are effectively communicated to all team members. Internal assessments have been conducted, leading to the implementation of corrective measures that continually reduce any significant risk of accidents.

Swire Energy Services continuously acknowledges outstanding contributions across all its locations, exemplified by the quarterly awards programme. The Q1 group safety award and Q2 group quarterly awards for excellent safety leadership were both won by members of the Nigeria team. This not only reflects the company’s commitment to recognising exemplary safety practises but also demonstrates the unwavering commitment to health and safety matters made by the Nigeria team.

The team's success is rooted in stringent safety measures and initiatives, with health, safety, and environment (HSE) embedded in the team's culture. The positive safety culture encourages employees to take personal responsibility for their safety and that of others.

Michael King, Vice President Operations & HSEQ at Swire Energy Services says: “This outstanding achievement, particularly within our industry's challenging operating environments, showcases our team’s dedication to safety. Every member of the Nigeria team is extremely proud to have achieved this milestone.

“This accomplishment not only enhances the team's reputation with customers but also underscores Swire Energy Services as a workplace where safety is paramount.

“We are ready for the next stage and have already set our sights on the next target – 5,000 days LTI free.”
