Swire Energy Services UK division Supports Local School for the Deaf.

Posted 28 May 2019

Swire Energy Services UK division, headquartered in Aberdeen, has made a £1000 donation to Aberdeen School for the Deaf to help support their funding requirements.

The School for Deaf has been operating in the city since 1904, providing specialist support for children from nursery to primary school age from its facilities based within the Sunnybank primary school building. The school employs 20 full time and part time teachers and specialist support staff who, alongside supporting the children at the School for the Deaf also provide external support services for children with a hearing loss in mainstream schools across the city.

The donation will help the school further develop their outdoor sensory play facility, with a new mud kitchen, handheld telescopes and digital cameras. This will allow the children to explore their surrounds and further develop their alternative senses including vision, touch and smell.

The School for The Deaf has helped many children in and around the city area, including Swire Energy Services own staff member, Rachel Moig. Rachel commented, “The school formed an important part of my early education and really helped set me up for further education and employment with communications skills including sign language. I think it’s great that Swire Energy Services is supporting the school as the service it provides has a very positive impact on children’s confidence and development from an early age.”

Heather Greggs, Acting Depute Head Teacher of Aberdeen School for the Deaf commented, “We are so grateful for the donation we have received from Swire Energy Services. The specialist equipment that some of our children require can be very expensive, and as such means we must work within a tight budget. External donations allow us to provide additional equipment and support services to the children, enriching their experience and giving us additional tools for teaching and supporting the children in their early development years.”

Alister Beck, North Sea General Manager, Swire Energy Services commented “Having visited the school and witnessed first-hand the excellent facilities and support offered to the pupils, we are delighted to have been able to assist such a deserving organisation.”

This donation from Swire Energy Services forms a part of a larger charity campaign in partnership with the company’s 40th anniversary year. Swire Energy Services aims to raise a global total of £40,000.00 to go towards children’s charities and organisations across all key operating countries including the USA, Africa, Norway, Middle East, Brazil, South East Asia and the UK.
