A team of six Swire Energy Services employees are getting set to tackle the national Three Peaks Challenge in just under four weeks’ time.
On the 15th June a Swire team will be hiking the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all in under 24 hours. The challenge will see the team hike over 23 miles, covering an overall ascent of 3,064 meters as well as the travel to and from each peak, roughly 500 miles in total.
The team, based in our UK Head Quarters in Aberdeen, will comprise of experienced and novice climbers all aiming to complete the challenge in under 24 hours to help raise money for the incredible local charity Charlie House.
The group leader, Lynsey Stewart commented “This challenge seemed like a great opportunity for all of us to improve our fitness, as well as promote team building within our office and help raise money for an incredible local charity. Since starting our training in January the team has managed to hike 5 'Munros', 2 'Corbetts' and a handful of smaller hills in the local area.”
Charlie House helps supports babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life limiting conditions in the North East of Scotland. The charity organises activities and projects to help enable families to gain confidence, engage socially, meet others in similar situations, share information and to get emotional and practical support when they need it most.
Lynn Batham, Fundraising Team Lead for Charlie House, says, “The Swire team has taken on an incredibly tough challenge and we wish them every success with the Three Peaks Challenge. The money raised by the team will enable us to continue to support babies, children and young people with complex disabilities and life-limiting conditions in the North-east of Scotland. As little as £10 can go on to fund one space for a child at our monthly activity clubs. Our most recent clubs have included a circus workshop, ten-pin bowling and music therapy sessions and climbing sessions at Transition Extreme for able bodied siblings.”
